ECHOES (1999) is a work different from all others written before by Tenreiro. In
it we are able to appreciate predominance of Romanticism. Beyond that, this work reflects
his awe at first seeing the beauty of Utah´s natural resources, which continually remind
him of the mountains of his native Caracas, Venezuela " This piece reflects the freedom of 20th century music while expressing dense harmonies with sweeping string melodies and heavy use of brass ", says Tenreiro of Mountain Echoes. This is so because he values and appreciates tradition. Some of the tools he uses come from the past. But also takes advantage of the liberty and innovating processes that contemporary music offers. He uses new sound proper of the avantgarde language. But he does not refrain from making the orchestra sound like the Classics and Romantics used to: with very expressive melodies, for instance. Incorporating these resources from the past to the countless possibilities of contemporary music, he creates a new sound with a very personal and updated style Mountains Echoes was commisioned by the Utah Arts Festival |
